What is
Watercolor Playground?

Online watercolor classes with an inspirational art journal

Watercolor Playground is the joy in a dark place.
The fun in a stressful life.
The creative outlet you are aching for.
A new hobby with deeper meaning.
And a beautiful way to document your life.

I want this to be an opportunity for you to learn watercolor, make a beautiful journal, and gain some clarity on your own mental health.

Hopefully in the process, we can raise awareness on depression, anxiety and all that comes with it. We can learn to paint and simultaneously build a community of fun, vibrant people that are using a creative outlet to battle overwhelm.

How does painting impact our mental health?

Painting provides stress relief.
Painting promotes a positive attitude.
Painting nurtures emotional growth.
Painting increases self esteem.
Painting improves mental health.
Painting is a form of therapy.

And what I found especially important for our children;
Painting fosters creative growth.
Painting strengthens memory.
And painting builds problem solving and motor skills.

My story

After my second baby was born four years ago, I went through a NASTY postpartum depression. My baby was eight months old when I had to be admitted on a suicide watch. I came out of that experience looking for a purpose in my life and I found ART. God guided me to college to get my art degree. That was exactly the creative, challenging outlet that I needed for my mental health. Combined with lots of therapy, of course.

I started painting in 2017 and quickly found the healing powers art has brought to my life. I want to share the amazing benefits art brings to our mental health. I also want to provide a creative outlet that inspires and gives hope for those in a dark place.

If you are currently going through a rough time, I want you to know that I see you. I know you. And I'm here to help. You are so incredibly loved.

And you were created ON PURPOSE, FOR A PURPOSE.

So much love,
Amanda

Meg @uncoveringstrength

I have loved your lessons! I paid for a community watercolor class last fall that went for 6 weeks and I’ve learned more in watercolor playground in a couple weeks than I learned there, so thank you! I’m excited to start art journaling again! This time with watercolor! Love the stuff you share for it and I’m excited to get started with it! I love what you’ve talked about in your art journaling videos too! They really touched me and reminded me why I started art journaling in the first place. I struggle with depression. I’ve always been an avid journaler, but when I’d get depressed or have anxiety I’d have a hard time writing all my thoughts down on paper. A friend introduced me to art journaling and it helped me to slow down my mind and calm my thoughts so I could figure my life out and work towards climbing out of the depression. When I had my first kiddo almost five years ago, I didn’t take time to do it anymore and I ended up having PPD and almost ended my life. Shortly after that I started exploring with art again and it’s been amazing what sitting down and creating something can do for my mood. I’m in a good place right now and I’m excited to learn more from you! Thank you!
